New work is emerging and I am slowly building a new body of work from sketches, recent experience, and photographs.
I am creating a number of paintings inspired by images of the construction a home from my family’s past, alongside images of spaces and forms that have inspired resilience in me over these months. The play of light through the architecture of my studio windows has been a lesson on the difference between light light here in the northwest of England and the sunlight I know so well from Southern California. These framed rectangles of light have made their way into a number of pantings, and form the starting grid for content in a wall-sized drawing/collage.
With the exception of a few sketches on panel, I am working entirely on paper. The flexibility and weight feels good, paper allows me more engagement with the wall surface, and I am enjoying the feeling of having a lighter edge with no frame like a stretched canvas would have.
By the end of the summer I plan to have a cohesive group of mid-sized paintings on paper to share online. If you would like to be notified when I open virtual studio visit slots or if you have a comment about this work, let me know here.
